Aileen’s musical background is rooted in classical music. She started learning the violin at age 7, and played in youth, and later symphony orchestras. She has an M.A. in music. She has taught violin in schools, played in orchestras for local amateur operatic shows and in a barn dance band. After moving to Spain in 1999, she taught at the Lady Elizabeth School and began conducting the school orchestra. She was then involved in various local theatre musical shows. She formed the Calpe Gilbert & Sullivan Society. She has been the conductor for some local choirs including Caprice, which she founded and since 2020, Denia Rock Choir.
In January 2020, she took on the role of musical director of Montgo Chorale. After a few weeks into the year, Covid hit and had an obvious impact on rehearsing and performing. However, over the past four years and under Aileen's direction, the choir has recovered and is now thriving, having mounted several highly praised concerts.
